HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. — A deadly crash Monday morning claimed the life of a Huntington woman after her SUV crossed the median and was struck by a semi-truck on US 24 in Union Township, according to local authorities. The crash happened just before 10 a.m., turning a routine drive into a tragic loss.
Officials said the collision occurred around 9:50 a.m. when an SUV driven by 58-year-old Patricia A. Jackson of Huntington crossed the median for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle then entered the path of an eastbound semi-truck traveling on US 24, resulting in a violent impact.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Jackson was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The Huntington County Coroner’s Office reported that she died from multiple blunt impact injuries. Her death has been ruled accidental, and investigators believe roadway conditions were a primary factor contributing to the crash.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 40-year-old Aaron Amyx of Harrison, Michigan, was not injured. Authorities said both the SUV and the semi-truck came to rest in the median of US 24 following the collision, causing traffic disruptions as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police. Officers secured the area, assisted with traffic control, and began gathering evidence to better understand what led up to the deadly incident.
In a statement, the Huntington County Coroner’s Office expressed condolences to Jackson’s family and friends as they mourn her sudden loss. Officials are reminding drivers to use extra caution, especially when road conditions are poor, as even brief moments of loss of control can have fatal consequences. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
