DUNKIRK, Ohio — The small village of Dunkirk is mourning the heartbreaking loss of two residents who were killed in a devastating head-on crash Monday afternoon in Hardin County. The tragic collision happened along State Route 68 near State Route 701 and has left families and neighbors struggling to cope with the sudden loss.

According to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 5:49 p.m. Authorities reported that 66-year-old Dori Spencer was driving a 2014 Buick Encore northbound on SR-68 when, for reasons still under investigation, her vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

Investigators said Spencer’s vehicle struck a southbound 2004 Volkswagen Passat driven by 27-year-old Owen Bame of Dunkirk. The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The highway was temporarily closed while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris.

Authorities have not yet released details about what may have caused the Buick to cross into the opposite lane. Officials say the case remains open as they work to determine exactly what led to the fatal collision.
