17-Year-Old Ni’Dreyah Marshall Fatally Shot in Wilkins Township Apartment

WILKINS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Wilkins Township community is mourning the death of 17-year-old Ni’Dreyah Marshall, who was fatally shot early Monday morning at the Brentmoor at Penn Center apartments. Authorities confirmed Marshall’s death, describing the incident as a tragic accident that has left friends, family, and neighbors devastated.

According to the Allegheny County Police Department, 20-year-old Rayohna Hexstall has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in connection with Marshall’s death. Investigators say the case remains active as officials work to gather evidence and fully understand the circumstances of the shooting.

A criminal complaint states that Hexstall, Marshall, and two other individuals were inside the apartment when a handgun discharged. Police allege that Hexstall was handling a firearm belonging to another person when it accidentally fired, striking Marshall in the head. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but despite efforts to save her, Marshall was pronounced dead.

Hexstall told detectives that another individual was handling the gun at the time it fired. However, multiple witnesses reported that Hexstall was in possession of the firearm when the shooting occurred. Authorities are reviewing all statements and evidence to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal incident.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Police are interviewing additional witnesses, collecting forensic evidence, and urging anyone with information to come forward. No other arrests have been made, but authorities said they are leaving no stone unturned as they work to ensure accountability and a complete understanding of the events.

Friends, classmates, and neighbors have expressed deep sorrow over Marshall’s death. Many described her as a bright, talented young woman whose life ended far too soon. The incident has also sparked renewed calls for firearm safety awareness, particularly in homes where guns are present. As the Wilkins Township community continues to process the tragedy, officials hope the investigation will provide answers and help prevent similar incidents in the future.
