41-year-old Natalie Long killed in Fatal UTV Crash on Old Charlestown Road

SALUDA COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) crash Monday in Saluda County. The Saluda County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as Natalie Long, 41, of Ward, according to Coroner Angie Rita. The crash has left the local community mourning as investigators work to determine what caused the deadly incident.

The crash occurred on Old Charlestown Road near Forest Hills Road, an area commonly traveled by local residents. Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a side-by-side UTV. When emergency crews arrived, they found the vehicle overturned along the roadway.

According to preliminary information released by state troopers, a 2014 Polaris side-by-side UTV was traveling south on Old Charlestown Road when it veered off to the right for reasons that remain unclear. The vehicle then struck an embankment before overturning. The impact caused severe injuries to the driver, leaving little chance for life-saving efforts.

Officials said Natalie Long died at the scene as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash. No other vehicles were reported to be involved, and authorities have not released information about whether Long was wearing safety equipment at the time. Investigators are continuing to examine the vehicle and the crash site for clues.

The incident remains under investigation by the Saluda County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers are working to determine what factors may have contributed to the crash, including road conditions, vehicle performance, speed, or possible mechanical issues. Additional details are expected once the investigation is complete.

In a statement, the Saluda County Coroner’s Office extended its heartfelt sympathies to Long’s family as the community grieves her sudden and tragic loss. Officials are also reminding residents about the importance of UTV safety, especially when operating such vehicles on roadways. As investigators continue their work, family, friends, and neighbors are left remembering a life lost far too soon.
