75-year-old Myrna Otherson Fatally Stabbed in Visalia; Miguel Camacho Arrested

VISALIA, Calif. — A 75-year-old woman was fatally stabbed Wednesday morning in a shocking attack at an apartment complex in Visalia, authorities confirmed. The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Miguel Mora Camacho, was arrested at the scene without incident, according to the Visalia Police Department. Police assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. near South Lovers Lane and East K Avenue. Officers were initially dispatched following reports of a hit-and-run accident, but upon arrival, they discovered a far more serious situation unfolding. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect moving through the complex, attempting to enter multiple apartments before the deadly encounter.

Investigators said Camacho forced his way into the apartment of Myrna Otherson, 75, after she opened her door. Once inside, he stabbed her multiple times. Emergency personnel quickly transported Otherson to Kaweah Health Medical Center, but she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have indicated there is no known connection between the victim and the suspect.

Police, with help from community members, were able to locate and take Camacho into custody at the scene. Officers reported that during the arrest, Camacho attempted to provoke them into using deadly force, but law enforcement successfully apprehended him without any injuries to officers or bystanders. Camacho was subsequently booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on a charge of homicide.

The Visalia Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Lab are actively reviewing video evidence and other materials as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not disclosed a motive for the attack and said the incident appears to be isolated. Investigators continue to gather information to better understand the sequence of events leading up to the fatal stabbing.

Authorities emphasized that residents should feel safe, as the suspect is securely in custody and no additional threats have been identified. Police also praised community members who helped officers quickly locate Camacho. The department encourages anyone with information related to the case to contact them directly.
