The tragic incident unfolded on December 8, 2025, when officers responded to a late-night report of gunfire and discovered a man lying in the roadway. The Littleton Police Department says the violent encounter has now led to a swift arrest, though many questions still remain.

Around 8:55 p.m., Chief Duke and responding officers arrived in the area of Little Drive after receiving a call about someone being shot. When they reached the scene, they found Montrell Devon Everett lying in front of 132 Little Drive. Everett was pronounced dead shortly afterward, and investigators confirmed he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The seriousness of the case prompted officers to immediately call in additional support.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was notified and began assisting local officers. The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to help secure the area until SBI agents arrived. Once on site, investigators meticulously examined the roadway, gathered forensic evidence, and began interviewing individuals who were nearby at the time of the shooting.

As detectives worked through the night, they identified a suspect: Scholar McGlen Jefferson III. By the next day, December 9, 2025, officers located Jefferson and took him into custody without incident. He was formally charged with felony murder and transported to the Halifax County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. Authorities confirmed that the booking photo taken during his arrest reflects the moment he was processed and charged in connection with Everett’s death.

Jefferson is scheduled to appear in court on January 22, 2026, where more details about the case may be revealed. For now, investigators are continuing their work to understand what led to the deadly encounter on Little Drive. Police have not released any information about a possible motive, leaving the community searching for answers as they process this violent loss.

Despite the uncertainty, officials have reassured residents that there is no ongoing threat to the public. As detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, the town of Littleton stands together in grief, hoping for clarity and justice as the investigation moves forward.
