LANCASTER, Calif. — A high-speed pursuit Tuesday evening in Lancaster ended in tragedy, leaving one man dead and another hospitalized, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred in the late afternoon after deputies attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be connected to an ongoing homicide investigation, sparking a chase that ended in a violent crash.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies began pursuing a white Ford truck near Avenue K around 4:57 p.m. Officials said the vehicle was suspected of being involved in a prior homicide case. The suspects refused to stop and fled at high speeds, prompting law enforcement to engage in a pursuit to prevent further danger to the public.
California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service that the suspects reportedly reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour during the chase. CHP officers later took over the pursuit and deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop the truck safely. Despite the measures, the vehicle lost a rear tire after hitting the spike strips and ultimately came to rest after crashing onto railroad tracks near Sierra Highway and Avenue D.
Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded quickly to the scene. A passenger in the truck was pronounced dead at the location. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Miguel Bravo Gonzalez, 22, of Palmdale.
The driver of the truck survived the crash and was transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not released details about the driver’s condition, citing the ongoing investigation. Officials also did not provide additional information about what may have led to the pursuit or the events immediately preceding the crash, emphasizing that the case remains active.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the crash, reviewing evidence, video footage, and witness accounts to reconstruct the sequence of events. Deputies and CHP officers are working to determine the full circumstances that contributed to the fatal outcome.
