OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Olympia community is mourning the deaths of three people discovered Saturday morning in west Olympia, confirmed Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Paula Victor-Lopez, 79, her husband Carlos Lopez-Estrada, 70, and Michelle Courts, 66, a close friend of Paula’s. Their sudden and tragic deaths have left family, friends, and neighbors in shock.
According to authorities, Olympia police were dispatched around 10:40 a.m. Saturday to a residence in the 2300 block of 19th Court Northwest after reports of an argument. Shortly thereafter, officers reported hearing gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, police found two victims inside the home and one outside, all deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators say the circumstances currently point to a possible murder-suicide, though detectives are continuing to work with the county coroner and the Washington State Patrol forensics crime scene team to determine exactly what occurred. Lt. Paul Lower of the Olympia Police Department emphasized that there are no active suspects and that the community is not considered at risk.
The coroner’s office scheduled examinations of all three victims on Tuesday to provide additional clarity about the cause and manner of their deaths. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward, stressing that even small details could help complete the investigation.
Neighbors and friends describe the victims as longtime residents who were known for their kindness and community involvement. The loss of Paula Victor-Lopez, Carlos Lopez-Estrada, and Michelle Courts has left a lasting impact on those who knew them, as residents reflect on a tragedy that unfolded in their neighborhood.
As the investigation continues, Olympia authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in providing any relevant information. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn the sudden and heartbreaking loss of three lives, offering support and condolences to family and friends during this difficult time.
