40-Year-Old Maria Zavala-Tinoco dies After Tragic Pedestrian Accident on Route 222

It is with profound sadness that the community of Reading, Pennsylvania, mourns the loss of Maria Zavala-Tinoco, 40, who tragically lost her life early Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025, in a devastating pedestrian accident along Route 222 near Dries Road in Ontelaunee Township. Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a woman remembered for her kindness and unwavering love.

According to authorities, Maria was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Route 222 around 4:55 a.m. when she was struck by a tractor-trailer and moments later by another oncoming vehicle. Emergency responders arrived within minutes and worked tirelessly to save her life, but despite their best efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.

Maria’s death has sent shockwaves through the Reading community, where she was deeply cherished by those who knew her. She is being remembered as a devoted mother, loving daughter, and loyal friend whose compassion and generosity touched countless lives.
