Two Arrested for killing 19-year-old Majed Al-Ar in Manotick-Area Shooting

OTTAWA — Ottawa police have identified 19-year-old Majed Al-Ar as the victim in the city’s third homicide of the year following a shooting near Manotick on Wednesday afternoon. The tragic incident has left residents stunned and a young life cut short far too soon.

The shooting happened on Bankfield Road near Prince of Wales Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to the Ottawa Paramedic Service. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire. Al-Ar was found suffering from life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his wounds.

A second man was also injured in the shooting. Authorities confirmed he was taken to hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. Police have not released further details about his identity or the extent of his injuries.

Ottawa police confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. However, investigators have not yet released their names or announced what charges, if any, they may face. The homicide unit continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting.

Residents described a chaotic and frightening scene as dozens of emergency vehicles flooded the area. Ariel Lasher, who lives directly across from where the shooting occurred, said she heard yelling before stepping outside. She reported seeing one individual with a gunshot wound to the elbow and another person lying on the roadway. Within minutes, police cruisers, ambulances, and other emergency responders filled the street. The roadway remained closed until about 2:30 a.m. Thursday while officers processed the scene and gathered evidence.

Another resident, Colleen Craig, said she initially believed the sirens were responding to a traffic accident, which she noted is not unusual in the area. However, as more and more emergency vehicles arrived, she realized the situation was far more serious. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Majed Al-Ar, remembering him not only as a victim in a case but as a 19-year-old whose life ended too soon.
