COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in a deadly crash near Easton Town Center earlier this week. The collision happened Monday afternoon along Interstate 270 North near the Easton Way exit and caused traffic disruptions as investigators worked at the scene.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Lydia Awah, 44. Officials confirmed that Awah died as a result of injuries she suffered in the crash, which occurred just after 2 p.m. Emergency crews responded quickly, but she was pronounced dead following the collision.
According to investigators, the crash involved two vehicles traveling on I-270 North. A Kia Sorento was driving northbound when it struck a Pontiac Vibe that was stopped in the middle breakdown lane. Authorities have not said why the Pontiac was stopped in that location or how long it had been there before the crash occurred.
The impact of the collision caused severe damage to at least one of the vehicles. Investigators did not immediately release information about whether mechanical problems, traffic conditions, or other factors may have contributed to the crash. The exact sequence of events leading up to the collision remains under review.
The condition of the other driver involved in the crash was not known as of Tuesday. Officials have not released the identity of that driver or said whether any injuries were reported. No information has been provided regarding potential charges or citations related to the incident.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine why the Pontiac was stopped in the breakdown lane and whether speed, visibility, or other circumstances played a role. Officials are reminding drivers to use caution on highways, especially near exits and breakdown lanes, and to remain alert for stopped vehicles. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
