Hesse K-8 Teacher Linda Davis Killed in Morning Car Crash in Savannah

The Savannah community is reeling after the tragic death of Linda Davis, a beloved teacher at Hesse K-8 School, who was killed in a car crash Monday morning, February 16, near the school. The incident has deeply affected students, staff, and families, prompting the school district to provide support and counseling to those impacted.

According to the Chatham County EMS, crews responded to the crash around 7:25 a.m. on Whitefield Avenue near the Truman Parkway. One person was trapped in a vehicle and required extrication. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, with one reported in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed that Linda Davis, a dedicated member of the Hesse K-8 teaching staff, died as a result of the crash.

The school district announced that counselors would be available throughout the week to support students, staff, and families in coping with the loss. In a statement, Principal Alonna McMullen emphasized that teachers and counselors had been briefed on how to discuss the tragedy with students and provide emotional support. She encouraged families to reach out if their children needed additional assistance.

“Our teachers and counselors have received guidelines for discussing death and students’ reactions. District counseling personnel will be available for anyone needing special support,” Principal McMullen wrote in a social media statement. “We will try to maintain normal routines where possible, and we encourage parents to do the same. Resources are also available to help you talk with your child about this loss.”

The crash prompted temporary road closures, with Whitefield Avenue initially closed in both directions near Truman Parkway. Chatham County Police Department confirmed the closure as crews worked to clear the scene. Video footage captured by local media showed officers from the Department of Homeland Security present at the scene, including at least one Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officer.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools community is mourning the sudden loss of a respected teacher and colleague. Linda Davis is remembered as a devoted educator whose impact extended beyond the classroom. Students, staff, and families continue to grieve as the district provides support and resources, honoring her memory while helping the community process the tragedy.
