CLEARWATER, FL — June 30, 2025 — A deadly motorcycle crash early Monday morning has claimed the life of a 27-year-old man from Largo and led to the temporary closure of southbound U.S. Highway 19. The tragic incident occurred just after midnight near Enterprise Road in Clearwater.
According to Clearwater Police and witness reports, a motorcycle traveling at high speed struck the concrete barrier that separates the highway’s main lanes from the access road. The rider, identified as Leon Webb, was operating a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 — a sportbike known for its speed and performance. The impact of the crash was severe, and no other vehicles were believed to be involved.
Emergency crews from Clearwater Police and Fire Rescue responded swiftly to the scene. Despite their efforts to administer aid, Webb was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. The southbound lanes of U.S. 19 remained closed for several hours as traffic homicide investigators worked to reconstruct the crash and determine exactly what happened.
Authorities believe speed was a key factor in the incident, but the investigation is ongoing. No signs of foul play or mechanical failure have been reported so far. Police have not said whether weather or road conditions contributed to the crash. The area has since been reopened to traffic.
The loss of Leon Webb has left a deep void in the lives of his family and friends. Loved ones have taken to social media to express their grief and remember Webb as a passionate, energetic individual who enjoyed life and loved to ride. His untimely passing serves as a reminder of the risks motorcyclists face, especially when traveling at high speeds.
Officials are urging all drivers, particularly motorcyclists, to remain alert and exercise caution on Florida’s busy highways. They emphasize the importance of obeying speed limits, wearing protective gear, and being mindful of road conditions. As the community mourns the loss of Leon Webb, Clearwater Police continue to investigate the crash and encourage anyone with information to contact the Traffic Homicide Unit.
