CHICAGO — Two beloved members of a local dance community were killed early Thursday morning after the SUV they were traveling in overturned on the northbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway on the city’s South Side. The tragic crash has left families, friends, and fellow dancers mourning the sudden loss of two young lives filled with promise and passion.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. near 111th Street on February 19, 2026. Authorities said the SUV lost control before rolling over on the freeway. Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released details about what may have caused the driver to lose control in the early morning hours.
Three additional passengers inside the vehicle survived the crash but were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries of varying severity. At least one individual was reported to be in critical condition upon arrival. The victims were identified by EmpIIre Dance Institute as Lazarus “Hollywood” Gonzalez, 25, and Isaiah “Bo” Flemister, 17. Both were described as dedicated, talented performers who brought energy and inspiration to the local dance scene. Friends say Gonzalez was known for his leadership and charisma, while Flemister, just 17, was admired for his determination and growing talent.
Traffic on the freeway was temporarily shut down for several hours as emergency responders conducted rescue operations and investigators processed the scene. Lanes were later reopened, but the emotional impact of the tragedy continues to ripple through Chicago’s dance community. As loved ones grieve, many are remembering Gonzalez and Flemister not only for their talent, but for the light they brought into the lives of those around them.
