PERRY COUNTY, Ohio — A Perry County community is mourning the loss of a man who died following a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Pike Township. Authorities have identified the victim as 52-year-old Larry Dennis of Zanesville. The fatal crash occurred on a rural stretch of roadway and is now under investigation.
According to investigators, the crash happened on Tunnel Hill Road near Township Road 487. Emergency crews were called to the scene after reports of a truck that had gone off the roadway. Officials said Dennis was traveling westbound when his vehicle left the right side of the road for reasons that are still unknown.
Investigators said Dennis’ truck struck a culvert before continuing off the road and hitting a tree. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle. First responders arrived quickly and provided emergency medical care at the scene before Dennis was transported to Genesis Hospital in Somerset for further treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, authorities said Dennis later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. His death has deeply affected family members and friends, who are now left grieving the sudden and tragic loss.
At this time, officials have not released details about what may have caused the truck to leave the roadway. It is not yet known whether speed, road conditions, a medical emergency, or another factor played a role. Investigators are continuing to review the scene and gather information to determine exactly what happened.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and local authorities remain actively involved in the investigation. As the community reflects on this tragic accident, officials are reminding drivers to remain alert, especially on rural roads where narrow lanes and roadside hazards can increase the risk of serious crashes. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact local law enforcement as the investigation continues.
