MAULDIN, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside a vehicle in a Mauldin parking lot late Monday morning. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Kareem Levar Brice of Spartanburg, whose death was caused by a gunshot wound.
According to the Mauldin Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:40 a.m. on February 2, 2026, to reports of an unresponsive person inside a vehicle parked at 288 Old Mill Road. The call prompted an immediate response from law enforcement to check on the individual’s condition.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man inside the vehicle suffering from visible traumatic injuries. First responders were called to provide medical assistance, but despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The area was secured as investigators began processing the location for evidence.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office later confirmed the victim’s identity as Kareem Levar Brice. The coroner determined that Brice died from a gunshot wound, and the manner of death has officially been ruled a homicide. An autopsy was performed on February 3, 2026, to gather additional information surrounding the cause and circumstances of his death.
Authorities have not released details about when the shooting may have occurred or how long Brice had been inside the vehicle before he was discovered. Investigators also have not said whether the shooting took place at the parking lot or at another location. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been announced at this time.
The case remains under active investigation by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and the Mauldin Police Department. Detectives are working to determine the events leading up to the fatal shooting, including reviewing surveillance footage, collecting physical evidence, and interviewing potential witnesses.
