Johnstown Woman Killed in Domestic Shooting; Suspect arrested

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Authorities in Cambria County have identified the victim of a deadly domestic-related shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in the Moxham section of Johnstown. The victim, 38-year-old Kammi Ritchwood, was found inside a home along Cypress Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The Cambria County Coroner’s Office has officially ruled her death a homicide, marking another tragic case of domestic violence in the community.

Police say the suspect, 43-year-old Raghib Qawi Nash, is in custody after allegedly admitting to fatally shooting Ritchwood, whom he reportedly referred to as his wife. Investigators recovered a .45-caliber handgun at the scene. Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute that escalated into deadly violence. Police described the incident as a “senseless act” that has deeply affected those who responded and the neighborhood where it occurred.

According to investigators, officers arrived at the residence and found Ritchwood lying on the floor while another woman attempted to perform life-saving measures. Emergency responders pronounced Ritchwood dead at the scene. Witness statements and phone records indicate the dispute began the night before the shooting. Police allege Nash made multiple threatening statements toward Ritchwood prior to the fatal encounter, raising serious concerns about warning signs leading up to the violence.

Court records show Nash is currently being held at the Cambria County Prison. He faces several charges, including criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of terroristic threats. His bail has been denied, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 18 at 10 a.m. Authorities say additional information may be released as the investigation continues.

Johnstown Police Chief Mark Britton emphasized the importance of recognizing and responding to domestic violence early. He stated that the department offers resources for victims and continues to pursue specialized training aimed at helping officers intervene before disputes escalate into deadly situations. Officials stressed that domestic violence often follows patterns that can be interrupted with timely support and intervention.

Cambria County District Attorney Jessica Aurandt described the shooting as an isolated incident and assured the public there is no ongoing threat to the community. As family and friends mourn the loss of Kammi Ritchwood, authorities are urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help. Her death serves as a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved conflict and the critical need for awareness, support, and prevention.
