CLARKSTON — A 42-year-old woman was found dead early Wednesday morning on the Greenbelt Trail in Clarkston, leading authorities to open an investigation into her death. Officials have identified the woman as Kacey M. Storm. The discovery was made just south of the Interstate Bridge, an area commonly used by walkers, runners, and cyclists.
According to law enforcement, officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. following a report of an unconscious person. The call initially described the individual as an unconscious male, but responding officers later confirmed the victim was a woman. Storm was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detective Darin Boyd said preliminary evidence indicates the cause of death is a suspected overdose. Items found at the scene led investigators to believe drugs may have played a role. However, officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached at this time.
Asotin County Coroner Lisa Webber has ordered toxicology testing to determine the exact cause of death. The results of those tests will confirm whether drugs were involved and, if so, what substances may have contributed. Toxicology results can take several weeks to be completed, according to officials.
Boyd confirmed that Storm’s next of kin has been notified. Authorities also noted that Storm was transient at the time of her death. Investigators are working to piece together her final movements and determine how long she had been on the trail before she was discovered.
The Greenbelt Trail remained open during the investigation, though officers were present for several hours while the scene was documented. Police are urging anyone who may have seen Storm in the area or has information related to the case to contact authorities. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about substance abuse and public safety in shared community spaces.
