Justin Hokey, 34, Killed in Crash on U.S. Highway 52 in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — A 34-year-old Laurel man lost his life Friday morning following a serious single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 52 near State Road 229. Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene on February 13, 2026, after receiving reports of a crash involving significant injuries.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, preliminary findings indicate that a 2005 Nissan SUV driven by Justin M. Hokey was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 52 when it left the roadway. Investigators believe the vehicle encountered icy conditions before veering off the south side of the road. The SUV then rotated and struck a utility pole before coming to rest on its passenger side.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Hokey was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner. Authorities stated that preliminary evidence suggests Hokey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Officials noted that icy road conditions may have contributed, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
