18-Year-Old Justin Hall Killed in fatal Crash on Highway 421 in Sullivan County

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. — A devastating early morning crash on Highway 421 has left one teenager dead and another person injured, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The single-vehicle accident happened around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday along U.S. Highway 421 near Pyle Road, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Authorities reported that a Subaru Impreza was traveling northbound when it veered off the right side of the roadway. Investigators say the vehicle struck a fallen tree before continuing down a wooded embankment, where it finally came to rest. The force of the collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle and prompted a swift response from emergency personnel.

Officials identified the passenger as 18-year-old Justin Hall, who was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Subaru survived but suffered injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. At this time, authorities have not released further details about the driver’s condition.

Preliminary findings indicate that neither Hall nor the driver was wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. Investigators emphasized that seatbelt use significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in serious collisions. Charges related to the incident are pending as troopers continue to review evidence and determine contributing factors.

The crash led to the temporary closure of Highway 421, also known as State Route 34, near South Holston Lake. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the roadway was shut down in both directions while crews worked to clear debris and ensure the area was safe for travel. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during the investigation.

After several hours, the highway was reopened to traffic. Meanwhile, family, friends, and community members are mourning the tragic loss of a young life cut short. As investigators continue their work, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, remain alert for road hazards, and always buckle up to help prevent further heartbreak on Tennessee’s roadways.
