Security Guard Killed in Workplace Shooting at Northrop Grumman Facility in Linthicum

LINTHICUM, Md. — A deadly shooting inside a Northrop Grumman facility in Linthicum has left one contracted security guard dead and another facing murder charges, according to Anne Arundel County police. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on January 28, 2026, at the facility located in the 7300 block of Aviation Boulevard, prompting an immediate response from multiple law enforcement agencies.

Northern District officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, Maryland Transportation Authority Police had already secured the facility and taken the suspected shooter into custody. Authorities said the scene was quickly stabilized and there was no ongoing threat to employees or the surrounding community.

Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two contracted security guards working inside the building. During the confrontation, one of the guards allegedly discharged his firearm, striking the other. The victim was identified as Joseph Keith Aman, 37, of Baltimore. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a third contracted security guard intervened during the incident. That individual was able to disarm the suspect and detain him until law enforcement arrived. Authorities emphasized that the shooting was an isolated incident involving contracted security personnel and did not involve Northrop Grumman employees or operations.

Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Detectives responded and assumed control of the investigation. Detectives conducted interviews with witnesses and worked alongside Evidence Collection Unit technicians to process the scene. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered, and investigators are continuing to analyze evidence to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the confrontation.

The suspect was identified as Dylan Blake Chandler, 26, of Pasadena, Maryland. Chandler has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and related offenses. He remains in custody as the case proceeds through the court system. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing.
