35-year-old John King Dies in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Missouri Route 291

LIBERTY, Mo. — A 35-year-old man from Independence died Tuesday afternoon following a motorcycle crash on Missouri Route 291 near Elizabeth Street, authorities said. The incident has shocked friends, family, and the local community.

The crash occurred around 1:51 p.m., according to the Liberty Police Department. A 2005 Suzuki motorcycle, traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, attempted to pass two vehicles improperly. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of a northbound 2015 GMC Terrain that was turning west into a driveway.

The motorcyclist, identified as John King, 35, of Independence, was quickly transported to a local hospital by emergency responders. Despite their efforts, he later died from injuries sustained in the collision. Family and friends described King as a kind and well-liked member of the community whose sudden death has left many grieving.

Following the crash, southbound lanes of Missouri 291 were temporarily closed from West Kansas Street past the scene. First responders and police worked at the site to provide assistance, secure the area, and conduct a thorough investigation. Motorists were urged to use alternate routes while the scene was cleared.
