INMAN, S.C. — A teenage suspect has been charged with murder following the shooting death of a 21-year-old woman in the Inman community, an incident that deputies say was initially reported as accidental but later determined to be intentional based on physical evidence at the scene.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at approximately 9:02 p.m. on February 3, 2026, to a residence in the 400 block of Farm Creek Road after receiving a call reporting an accidental shooting. When deputies arrived, they found Skyy Ernestasjah Logan, 21, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Emergency medical crews transported her to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Despite life-saving efforts by hospital staff, Logan later died from her injuries, authorities said. Her death prompted a more extensive investigation involving patrol deputies, detectives, and crime scene personnel, who worked to document evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
During the course of the investigation, deputies said physical evidence collected at the scene did not align with the initial account provided to law enforcement. As detectives continued reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, authorities determined the shooting was not accidental, leading them to pursue criminal charges.
As a result, investigators obtained arrest warrants for Jayvion Nyrek Rice, 19, charging him with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. Rice was taken into custody and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility, where he is being held pending a bond hearing. Officials have not released additional details about the relationship between Rice and Logan or what events led up to the shooting.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that investigations can evolve rapidly as new evidence emerges and cautioned against early conclusions in cases involving firearms. Detectives continue to work the case, and authorities said additional information may be released as the investigation progresses. At this time, no further suspects have been announced.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact Sergeant Will Ussery with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office at (864) 503-4536 or by email at wussery@spartanburgcounty.org. Deputies said even small details could be critical in fully understanding what led to Logan’s death.
