East Harris County, Texas — Authorities have identified Jayden Ford, 17, as the victim in a deadly shooting that occurred Thursday night near the 200 block of Uvalde Road, close to the Woodforest area, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The fatal incident has left family members, friends, and the surrounding community grieving the loss of a young life.
Investigators said Ford was visiting other teenagers at an apartment complex when the violence unfolded. At some point during the evening, a suspect armed with a pistol approached Ford in what detectives believe was an attempted robbery. During the encounter, the suspect shot Ford, causing fatal injuries. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Ford was pronounced dead there.
Authorities described the suspect as wearing a hoodie and a mask, making identification difficult. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Investigators also reported that several other individuals ran from the area immediately after the gunfire, adding complexity to the case as detectives work to determine who may have witnessed the shooting or been involved in the events leading up to it.
In addition to the suspect fleeing on foot, deputies said a dark-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting. It is unclear whether the vehicle is directly connected to the suspect or others involved, but investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence to determine its role in the incident.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. Detectives continue to interview witnesses, canvass the apartment complex, and analyze any available video or physical evidence. As of now, no arrests have been announced, and authorities have not released further details about a possible motive beyond the suspected attempted robbery.
Officials are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the case. Anyone with details related to the shooting is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or reach out to Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
