Jason McCarty killed in fatal Crash in Harrodsburg on Louisville Road

The community of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 44-year-old Jason McCarty, who died Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026, following a tragic traffic collision on Louisville Road (US-127). The devastating incident has left family members, friends, and residents across Mercer County grieving the loss of a man many describe as kind, hardworking, and deeply connected to those around him.

According to authorities with the Kentucky State Police Richmond Post, the crash occurred during the morning hours while a Rumpke trash truck was stopped along Louisville Road collecting garbage at a residence. Officials said McCarty was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when his vehicle struck the stationary garbage truck. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, but sadly, McCarty was pronounced dead at the location by the Mercer County Coroner.

Investigators reported that the driver of the trash truck, identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Caudill of Hustonville, Kentucky, was not injured in the crash. Authorities have not yet released further details about what may have led to the collision. Officials say the roadway incident remains under active investigation as detectives work to carefully examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The sudden loss has deeply affected the Harrodsburg and Mercer County community, where McCarty was well known and respected.
