DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A quiet Monday afternoon turned tragic when a horrific two-vehicle collision on Highway 83 claimed the lives of five people and left two more critically injured. The deadly crash occurred just before 4:40 p.m., shutting down the highway for hours between Lake Gulch Road and South Russellville Road as first responders worked urgently to assist victims and secure the scene.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the crash began when a black Toyota hatchback traveling southbound lost control, veered off the right shoulder, and then swerved back onto the roadway. Colorado State Patrol (CSP) reported that the Toyota rolled into the northbound lanes, ejecting the driver. A tan Ford sedan heading northbound then struck the vehicle head-on, resulting in catastrophic damage.
The driver of the Toyota—a 31-year-old Denver man—was pronounced dead at the scene. CSP later revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Aurora just over an hour before the crash. Investigators are now working to piece together what caused the driver to lose control and whether additional factors may have contributed.
Inside the Ford sedan, the impact proved equally tragic. Four occupants were pronounced dead on scene: the driver, 35-year-old Alvin Corado, and three children—8-year-old Toretto Corado, 12-year-old Makenlee Corado, and 12-year-old Jase Green, all from Colorado Springs. Two surviving juveniles—a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy—were airlifted to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Their conditions remain critical as medical teams work tirelessly to save them.
CSP’s Vehicular Crimes Unit continues to lead the investigation and is urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch and reference Case Number VC250439. Witness accounts could be vital in understanding the sequence of events and determining whether road conditions, speed, or evasive actions played a role.
The tragedy has left the Colorado Springs community reeling. Family, friends, and neighbors of the victims are mourning an unimaginable loss as they grapple with the sudden deaths of multiple loved ones, including three young children whose lives were cut far too short. In response, relatives have launched GoFundMe campaigns to help cover funeral expenses and support ongoing medical care for the surviving children.
