A tragic road rage incident along Interstate 495 has left two people dead and three others seriously injured, shaking the community of Fairfax County. The violent chain of events unfolded Sunday afternoon on the Capital Beltway, sending shockwaves across Northern Virginia and raising fresh concerns about how quickly highway confrontations can spiral out of control.
According to Virginia State Police, a trooper was dispatched at approximately 1:17 p.m. on March 1, 2026, to the southbound lanes of Interstate 495 near Exit 52 after reports of a road rage incident. When the trooper arrived, authorities say he encountered a male suspect armed with a knife. Officials stated that the trooper fired his service weapon in self-defense, striking the suspect during the confrontation.
The suspect was later identified as Jared Llamado, 32, of McLean. He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but later died. The trooper involved in the shooting was not hurt. As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the trooper has been placed on administrative leave while an independent investigation is conducted.
Investigators determined that before the trooper arrived, a crash had already occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 495. Following that collision, multiple individuals were stabbed. Michelle Adams, 39, also of McLean, tragically died from her injuries. Authorities also confirmed that a dog injured during the incident did not survive.
Three other victims — Dana Bonnell, 36; Mary C. Flood, 37; and Heather Miller, 40 — were rushed to area hospitals with serious injuries. Their families now face a long and painful recovery process as they cope with the emotional and physical trauma caused by the sudden violence.
Authorities continue to investigate both the initial crash and the stabbing attack that followed. Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact state police. As the investigation moves forward, the heartbreaking tragedy stands as a sobering reminder of how quickly roadway disputes can turn deadly, forever changing the lives of those involved and the community around them.
