MILWAUKEE — Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning on Milwaukee’s north side, near the intersection of 35th Street and Walnut Street, just east of Washington Park. Police were dispatched to the area around 4:45 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire, prompting a large law enforcement response as officers secured the scene and began their investigation.
Later Thursday morning, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office released an update identifying the victim as 35-year-old Jahvee Taylor. Officials confirmed that Taylor died by suicide. Despite that determination, Milwaukee police said they are still reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident to fully document what led up to the shooting and to complete their report.
When officers arrived at the scene, investigators were seen focusing on a white van bearing Texas license plates. The vehicle appeared to have sustained significant damage, including a shattered windshield, drawing attention from both police and onlookers in the area. The van was examined as part of the investigation, though authorities have not released details about its role in the incident.
Police have not disclosed what occurred in the moments leading up to the gunfire. No arrests have been announced, and officials have not indicated that anyone else was injured. While the medical examiner’s ruling clarified the manner of death, investigators continue to piece together the timeline of events from the early morning hours.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department’s call log, officers had been dispatched to the same block shortly before the shooting for a report of a possible vehicle break-in. Police emphasized that the earlier call and the fatal incident are not believed to be related. Authorities said there is no indication that the prior call contributed to or caused the shooting.
The investigation remains active as police finalize their findings and documentation. Officials have not released additional information about Taylor or the events surrounding his death. Anyone who may have witnessed activity in the area around the time of the incident is encouraged to contact the Milwaukee Police Department as investigators work to bring clarity to the circumstances of the early morning tragedy.
