71-year-old Humberto Macedo Found Dead in Tiverton

TIVERTON, R.I. — Tiverton police have identified the man who was found dead Tuesday morning in a garage parking area, easing concerns of foul play while an official cause of death remains under investigation. Authorities say the circumstances surrounding the case do not indicate criminal activity, and there is no threat to the public.

The deceased has been identified as Humberto Macedo, 74, of Fall River, Massachusetts. Police said Macedo was found in the parking area of a garage located at 100 Bay Street. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a deceased person and immediately secured the area while beginning a detailed investigation.

According to officials, an initial examination of the scene showed no signs of violence or suspicious activity. Investigators reported that there were no visible injuries or evidence suggesting that Macedo had been harmed by another person. Police said the scene did not show any signs of a struggle or forced interaction.

As part of the investigation, Tiverton police reviewed surveillance footage from nearby cameras. Authorities said the video showed Macedo in the area beginning Monday evening, several hours before his body was discovered. The footage did not capture any interactions between Macedo and other individuals during that time.

Police said the surveillance video also showed no evidence of foul play. Investigators noted that Macedo appeared to be alone throughout the time he was recorded, and there were no unusual movements or incidents that would raise concerns. Based on the evidence collected so far, officials believe the death does not appear to be suspicious.

While police do not suspect a crime, the case has been referred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. As of Wednesday morning, the medical examiner had not yet determined the official cause of death. An autopsy and additional testing may be conducted to provide answers. Tiverton police said they will continue to assist as needed and will release updates if new information becomes available.
