Fort Pierce police have identified 23-year-old Gregory Carson as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening in the parking lot of the Pine Creek Village Apartments. Carson was rushed to HCA Lawnwood Hospital following the incident, but despite emergency efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. His sudden death has left loved ones and the surrounding community shaken as investigators work to uncover what led to the deadly confrontation.
According to police, the shooting unfolded in the parking area of the apartment complex located along North 27th Street. Detectives say Carson became involved in a dispute with a group of males shortly before gunfire erupted. While the motive behind the altercation remains unclear, authorities confirmed the conflict escalated rapidly, resulting in Carson being shot. Officers arrived within minutes of residents reporting the disturbance, finding the young man critically injured.
Neighbors described the situation as both chaotic and heartbreaking. Walter Parks, who lives directly across from the scene, said his grandson witnessed part of the confrontation and saw tensions escalate quickly. According to him, three individuals appeared to be involved, and at least one punch was thrown before shots rang out. Parks expressed sadness and concern, noting how troubling it is to see violence strike so close to home. “It hurts to see something like this happen right outside,” he said.
Another resident, Tyanna Gore, also heard the gunfire that shattered the evening. Having lived in the neighborhood for years, Gore said violent incidents, unfortunately, are not entirely uncommon there. Though she does not feel personally targeted, she admitted that the recurring nature of such events weighs heavily on long-term residents. “You try not to get numb to it,” she said, “but when it happens over and over, it’s hard.”
The Fort Pierce Police Department continues to investigate the case, reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and gathering any available evidence. No arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large. Police are searching for a young Black male who was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black skull cap, and gray joggers. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial in cases like this.
As the search for answers continues, the community is left mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon. Neighbors have offered condolences to Carson’s family, hoping that justice will be served and that increased communication and vigilance will help prevent future tragedies. Police plan to release further updates as their investigation moves forward.
