Browning Elementary School Student and his Father died in Tragic Train-Car Collision

The Browning community is heartbroken following a tragic train and car collision that claimed the lives of a 7-year-old elementary school student and his father on Tuesday afternoon. The devastating crash has left classmates, teachers, and residents struggling to cope with the sudden loss of two lives taken far too soon.

Browning Public Schools confirmed that Grayson Running Crane, a second-grade student at Browning Elementary School, and his father, Joe Fisher, died in the accident on December 30, 2025. In a message shared on social media, Superintendent Rebecca Rappold expressed deep sorrow, calling Grayson a cherished member of the school family whose absence will be felt across the entire district.

According to the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Spotted Robe Trail, west of Highway 2. Investigators said Grayson and his father were traveling together in a car when it was struck by an Amtrak train. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed they were the only occupants in the vehicle.

The Montana Highway Patrol also responded to the crash and confirmed the details of the incident. Officials have not released further information about how the collision occurred, and no additional injuries were reported. The area surrounding the crash site was temporarily closed as emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said it “extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.” A multi-agency investigation is now underway, involving the FBI, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, Montana Highway Patrol, BNSF Railway Police, and the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the investigation will help determine the exact cause of the crash.
