EDINBURG, TX — A tragic head-on collision Monday night claimed the life of a 21-year-old McAllen man, leaving a family grieving and a community in shock. The devastating crash happened in a busy area of Edinburg and quickly drew a heavy emergency response as authorities worked to save those involved.

According to a spokesperson for the City of Edinburg, the fatal collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Road and Rhin Drive. The crash took place directly in front of the UTRGV Vision Center, a well-known location in the area. Evening traffic was disrupted as police and emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Officials said a Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Jackson Road while a Ford F-450 twin-wheel drive truck was heading northbound. For reasons that are still under investigation, the two vehicles collided head-on. The impact was severe, causing heavy damage to both vehicles and bringing traffic in both directions to a halt.

Authorities identified the driver of the Ford Fusion as Federico Julian Sustaita, 21, of McAllen. He suffered critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead. His sudden passing has left loved ones heartbroken, as they struggle to understand how such a tragic event could happen in an instant.

The driver of the Ford F-450 survived the collision and was transported to a local hospital. Officials described the driver’s injuries as minor.
