GREENSBORO, N.C. — Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in a deadly head-on crash late Thursday night in Greensboro. The collision happened near the intersection of Summit Avenue and Helen Road and prompted a large emergency response as investigators worked to determine what caused the tragic crash.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:50 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a serious crash with injuries. When first responders arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles and began rendering aid to those involved while securing the area.
Investigators said a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Summit Avenue when it suddenly crossed the centerline for reasons that are still unclear. The Honda then collided head-on with a southbound Toyota Highlander, causing a violent impact that sent the Honda off the roadway.
After the initial collision, the Honda Civic ran off the road and crashed into a nearby tree, sustaining severe damage. Emergency crews quickly assessed the situation, but the driver of the Honda had suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Faith Shalita Mitchell, 35, of Greensboro. Police said Mitchell was the only person inside the Honda at the time of the crash. The driver of the Toyota Highlander survived the collision and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details about the extent of that driver’s injuries.
Police said weather and road conditions do not appear to have contributed to the crash. Investigators are continuing to examine possible factors, including speed, distraction, or a medical emergency. The Greensboro Police Department’s crash investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been announced at this time.
As the investigation continues, officers are urging drivers to remain alert, especially during late-night hours when visibility and reaction time can be reduced. The death of Faith Mitchell marks another tragic reminder of how quickly lives can be lost on local roadways. Police say more information will be released as it becomes available, while Mitchell’s family and loved ones are left grieving her sudden and devastating loss.
