A devastating crash on Tuesday afternoon in Brownfield, Texas, claimed the life of a local woman after her vehicle was struck by a semi-truck at a busy intersection. The collision occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. at U.S. Highway 385 and FM 2196, drawing a swift response from Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and emergency crews.
According to DPS investigators, the crash unfolded when a semi-truck driven by 45-year-old Rosalba Munoz was traveling eastbound on FM 1296. As Munoz approached the intersection with U.S. Highway 385, she was required to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the highway. At the same time, 29-year-old Elizabeth Miranda of Brownfield was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 385, which has the right of way at that location.
Preliminary findings indicate that Munoz failed to stop at the traffic control sign and instead proceeded into the intersection. This led to a direct and violent collision with Miranda’s passenger vehicle, which had been traveling lawfully along the highway. The impact was catastrophic, causing fatal injuries to Miranda. She was pronounced dead at the scene despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders.
Munoz sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Brownfield Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the extent of her injuries, but DPS has confirmed that she survived the collision.
The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the semi-truck driver’s failure to stop.
