BATON ROUGE, La. — An early morning shooting at a Baton Rouge apartment complex has claimed the life of an 18-year-old man, leaving residents shaken and a family grieving. Authorities say the violence unfolded shortly after sunrise Thursday at The Reserve at Howell Place, a residential community located off Plank Road.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers responded around 6:10 a.m. on February 12 to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of the complex, which sits in the 4200 block of Ford Street. When police arrived, they found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Edwyn Williams. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office was notified at approximately 6:45 a.m. and responded to conduct its examination. Officials confirmed that Williams died from injuries sustained in the shooting but have not released further details regarding the exact cause and manner of death.
Investigators have not shared information about a suspect or suspects, nor have they indicated whether the shooting was targeted. A motive has not been publicly disclosed. Detectives spent hours at the scene collecting evidence, taking photographs, and speaking with potential witnesses in an effort to determine what led to the deadly incident.
