24-Year-Old Dylan Severns killed in Mount Vernon Dirt Bike Crash

A late-night motorcycle crash has left the community of Mount Vernon grieving after a 24-year-old man lost his life Saturday evening. Authorities identified the victim as Dylan Severns of Mount Vernon. The tragic accident happened just before 11 p.m., turning a quiet night into one marked by sirens, flashing lights, and heartbreaking loss.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Mount Gilead Post responded to the crash at approximately 10:53 p.m. Investigators reported that Severns was riding a Kawasaki KX100 dirt bike northbound on Walnut Alley. As he approached the intersection with Sunset Street, he traveled off the north side of the roadway under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Troopers said the dirt bike struck a utility pole guy wire, which is a high-tension cable used to stabilize and support tall structures like utility poles. The impact caused severe injuries. Emergency responders from Mount Vernon City Fire/EMS quickly arrived at the scene and provided aid before transporting Severns to Knox Community Hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, Severns later died from his injuries at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Law enforcement officials frequently emphasize the importance of wearing helmets and proper safety gear, noting that helmets significantly reduce the risk of life-threatening head injuries in motorcycle and dirt bike accidents.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Mount Vernon Police Department and On the Spot Towing. Crews worked to secure the crash site and gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not released additional details about what may have caused the bike to leave the roadway.

As the investigation continues, friends and family are left mourning the sudden loss of Dylan Severns. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of how quickly accidents can happen and the importance of roadway safety. In Mount Vernon, many are remembering Severns and offering support to his loved ones during this difficult time.
