Hammond, who died early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 in Carroll County, Virginia. Virginia State Police confirmed that Hammond died at the scene despite wearing his seatbelt.
The chain of events began when a pickup truck traveling in the left lane struck the rear of a tractor-trailer and veered into the median. Moments later, a 2020 Tesla driven by Hammond attempted to change lanes and collided with a second tractor-trailer. The Tesla then re-entered the left lane and struck the first tractor-trailer involved in the initial crash.
