According to Sgt. Jameka Moore of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when Sampson was driving a 2008 Chevrolet passenger car westbound on Mitchum Bottom Road. Investigators say he attempted to cross Highway 45 when the vehicle was struck by a northbound 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The Hyundai was driven by Nicholas Douglas of Shubuta. The impact happened near a busy intersection known for steady highway traffic.
