WARREN, Ohio — A man who was shot while sitting inside a car in a Warren parking lot has died from his injuries, according to local police. Authorities identified the victim as Darrell Staggers of Warren. His death has turned what began as a daytime shooting into a homicide investigation, leaving the community shaken and searching for answers.
According to a police report, the shooting happened just before 12:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a store on Elm Street, near the intersection with Paige Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a person who had been shot inside a vehicle. The incident occurred in broad daylight, heightening concern among nearby residents and business owners.
A call log from Trumbull County Dispatch indicates that Staggers had been shot in the head. First responders arrived quickly and found him inside the car with critical injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, police said Staggers died shortly after arriving at the hospital due to the severity of his wounds.
At this time, investigators say no suspects have been identified. However, 911 audio released in the case has provided some early details about the individuals possibly involved. According to the caller, the suspected shooter was wearing all black and was driving a red crossover-style vehicle. Police believe this information could be key in locating those responsible.
The same caller also told dispatchers that another vehicle may have been involved. A white car with a stripe on the hood was reportedly seen speeding away from the area along with the red crossover vehicle shortly after the shooting. Authorities are working to determine whether the second vehicle was directly involved or simply associated with the suspect.
Police continue to actively investigate the deadly shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Detectives say even small details could help move the case forward. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, noticed suspicious activity in the area, or has information about potential suspects is asked to contact Detective Abigail Krafcik at 330-841-2914. As the investigation continues, the Warren community is left mourning the loss of Darrell Staggers and hoping for justice in a case that remains unsolved.
