Teen Killed, Another Critically Injured in Friday Night Shooting in Macon

MACON, Ga. — A Friday night shooting in Macon has left one teenager dead and another fighting for his life, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The incident unfolded in a residential neighborhood and has prompted an active homicide investigation as deputies search for answers and those responsible.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division says the shooting occurred inside the 400 block of Hardwick Drive. The incident was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026. Deputies were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports that a person had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they discovered 19-year-old Dantwan Wynes unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, Wynes was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley. Authorities later confirmed that Wynes’ next of kin has been notified of his death.

As deputies continued to secure and search the area, they located a second victim, also a 19-year-old male, nearby. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was quickly transported by ambulance to a local medical facility for treatment. According to medical staff, the victim is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators have not released details about what led up to the shooting or whether the victims were targeted. Authorities also have not said if any suspects have been identified or taken into custody. The scene remained active for several hours as deputies collected evidence and spoke with potential witnesses in the neighborhood.
