19-year-old Damion Jacobs killed in fatal Fort Wayne shooting

Authorities in Fort Wayne have identified the young man whose death prompted a homicide investigation in the city’s southeast side earlier this week. The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim was 19-year-old Damion Lamarr Jacobs, a Fort Wayne resident, whose death has been ruled a homicide.

Jacobs was found Wednesday evening in a parking lot behind the 6000 block of Holgate Drive. According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area around 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a man down. When officers arrived, they located Jacobs suffering from a gunshot wound.

Despite emergency response efforts, Jacobs was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner later determined that his death was caused by the gunshot injury, officially classifying the case as a homicide. No additional information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting has been released at this time.

Police have not said how long Jacobs may have been in the parking lot before he was discovered, nor have they confirmed whether witnesses were present when the shooting occurred. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence from the scene and are working to establish a timeline of events surrounding the fatal incident.

As of Friday, no suspects have been named and no arrests have been announced in connection with Jacobs’ death. Authorities have also not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting or whether Jacobs was targeted or if the incident may have been random. Detectives say the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is urging anyone who may have information related to the shooting to come forward. Even small details, investigators say, could be critical in helping identify those responsible. Tips can be provided directly to police or anonymously through local crime tip lines. As the investigation continues, family members and friends are left mourning the loss of a young life, while the community awaits answers in yet another case of deadly gun violence.
