WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem community is mourning the tragic loss of Damiàn Piper, a vibrant 16-year-old whose life was taken far too soon in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning. Her passing has left family, friends, classmates, and loved ones struggling to cope with an unimaginable loss.
According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, officers responded to a crash at approximately 1:48 a.m. in the 5700 block of Indiana Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered two juveniles who had been injured in the collision. Investigators reported that a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling west on Indiana Avenue toward Bethabara Road when it lost control, left the roadway, and struck a bridge abutment before coming to rest in the middle of the road.
Damiàn, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The juvenile driver was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the driver’s condition has improved and that the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
At just sixteen years old, Damiàn’s life was full of promise, dreams, and experiences yet to come. She was more than a victim of a crash—she was a daughter, a friend, a student, and a young person whose energy and spirit left a lasting impact on those around her. Friends and family remember her smile, her kindness, and the joyful moments she brought to others’ lives.
At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash. The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials have not released additional information as they work to determine the exact details of the collision.
As the community grieves, thoughts and prayers remain with Damiàn’s family, friends, and all those affected by the tragedy. Residents are encouraged to honor her memory by coming together in support of one another. While her life was tragically cut short, Damiàn Piper’s spirit and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
