THOMASTON, Ga. — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday evening in Thomaston, and a 14-year-old juvenile is being held in connection with the case as investigators work to determine what led to the deadly encounter. Deputies responded to a reported shooting at approximately 6:31 p.m. on February 19, 2026, at 2030 Wiley Street, according to the Upson County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they located Conner Wesley Walker, 19, inside an outbuilding on the property. Walker, who lived on Martin Luther King Drive, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities said he was shot with what was described as an AR-15-style rifle. Emergency responders pronounced Walker deceased at the scene.
Shortly after securing the area, deputies located a 14-year-old male who is now being held in connection with the shooting. Because the suspect is a juvenile, his name has not been released. Officials have not yet announced what charges, if any, will be filed, and it remains unclear whether the case will be handled in juvenile or superior court.
Sheriff’s investigators remained at the scene for several hours Thursday night, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to assist local authorities and process the crime scene. Agents collected forensic evidence and worked to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
Authorities have not disclosed what may have prompted the incident or whether the individuals involved knew one another prior to the shooting. Investigators are working to determine if the shooting stemmed from an argument, was accidental, or involved other circumstances. Officials have emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages.
The tragic loss of a 19-year-old life has left members of the Thomaston community shaken as they await more answers. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Upson County Sheriff’s Office. Additional details are expected to be released as investigators complete interviews and review evidence in the days ahead.
