The community of Killeen is mourning the tragic loss of Christopher Gillespey, a 37-year-old man who died following a shooting outside his residence on the morning of March 12, 2026. His sudden and heartbreaking passing has left family members, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of a life taken far too soon.
According to the Killeen Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:12 a.m. reporting a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of North Gray Street. When police arrived at the scene, they found Gillespey lying unconscious outside the residence. Emergency medical personnel quickly responded, but despite their efforts, he showed no signs of life.
Investigators later determined that Gillespey had been inside his home when the shooting occurred. Authorities believe he was shot while inside the residence and then managed to exit the house before collapsing outside. Responding officers discovered him in the area outside the home where he had fallen.
Gregory Johnson officially pronounced Gillespey dead at approximately 9:25 a.m. Officials confirmed that an autopsy has been ordered as part of the ongoing investigation. The examination will be conducted at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences to help determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Detectives with the Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, including the Robbery-Homicide Unit, are actively working to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting.
