Authorities in Louisville have identified the man who died in a tragic early-morning crash at Spaghetti Junction over the weekend. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 28-year-old Christian Shively, who lost his life in the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The Louisville Metro Police Department’s Traffic Unit is currently leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
According to police, the accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Interstate 64 East near the I-65 interchange—an area locally known as Spaghetti Junction. Officers responding to reports of a collision discovered two vehicles at the scene: a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Land Rover. Investigators believe Shively, who was driving the Hyundai, struck the rear of the Land Rover at a high rate of speed, causing both vehicles to come to a stop along the highway.
Police say that moments after the collision, Shively exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the interstate toward the westbound lanes. Tragically, while crossing, he was struck by another vehicle traveling westbound. Emergency crews quickly responded and performed life-saving measures, but Shively was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity and stated that his family had been notified of the loss.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Land Rover was not injured in the initial collision. The motorist who struck Shively while he was on foot remained at the scene and cooperated fully with police.
