A tragic two-vehicle crash in Lexington County has claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman, leaving family members and the community mourning a sudden and heartbreaking loss. The deadly collision occurred Tuesday evening along Old Chapin Road, a busy roadway in the Lexington area, according to county officials.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim as Cheryl S. Deichmann, 78, of Lexington. Coroner officials said the crash happened on December 30, 2025, at approximately 6:38 p.m., in the 500 block of Old Chapin Road. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of a serious accident involving two vehicles.

According to information released by the coroner’s office, Ms. Deichmann was traveling westbound on Old Chapin Road when her vehicle struck another car that was traveling eastbound. The impact caused significant damage and left both drivers injured, prompting immediate medical attention from first responders.

Authorities confirmed that Ms. Deichmann was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was transported by emergency crews to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, Ms. Deichmann later died from her injuries, Coroner Fisher confirmed.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision also suffered injuries and was transported to an area hospital for medical care. Officials have not released that driver’s identity or provided details on their current condition. No additional information about passengers or witnesses has been made public at this time.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet said what caused the collision or whether speed, impairment, or other factors played a role. As the investigation continues, officials are reminding drivers of the importance of wearing seatbelts, noting that seatbelt use can greatly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in traffic accidents.
