GREENSBORO, N.C. — A fatal hit-and-run crash has left one man dead and Greensboro police searching for answers after a pedestrian was struck and killed near NC 68. The incident, which happened late Friday night, was discovered hours later and has shocked the local community.
Greensboro police officers, along with crews from the Greensboro Fire Department and Guilford County EMS, were called to the area of NC 68 near Gallimore Dairy Road around 7:33 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said they received reports of a person lying near the roadway. When first responders arrived, they found the pedestrian unresponsive and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Chas Sellers, a 29-year-old man from Georgia. Police have not released details about why Sellers was in the area or where he may have been headed at the time. His sudden death has left loved ones mourning as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.
According to a preliminary investigation, Sellers was struck by a vehicle around 8:35 p.m. Friday, January 16. Police believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on NC 68 when it hit the pedestrian. Instead of stopping to help or call for emergency assistance, the driver continued driving and fled the scene.
Investigators say the vehicle involved may be a white Infiniti Q50. The Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit has taken over the case and is working to reconstruct the crash. Officers are examining physical evidence, reviewing possible surveillance footage, and speaking with potential witnesses who may have been in the area at the time.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about the crash to come forward. Authorities say even small details could help identify the driver and bring accountability in this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Greensboro Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say updates will be provided as more details become available.
