MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Authorities in Hopkins County have identified the man who died in a house fire that destroyed a residence in Madisonville earlier this week. The deadly fire occurred Monday morning, Jan. 12, in the 400 block of Alan Drive and remains under active investigation by local officials.
The Hopkins County Coroner confirmed the victim as Charles Jones, 64. Jones was found deceased inside the home after firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire shortly before 10 a.m. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:51 a.m. after neighbors noticed heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.
According to authorities, several neighbors reported hearing what sounded like an explosion moments before the house became fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews arrived quickly and worked to battle the intense blaze, which had already spread throughout much of the structure by the time they arrived. During a search of the home, firefighters discovered Jones inside, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Madisonville Fire Department and Madisonville Police Department are jointly investigating the incident. Officials have not yet said what may have caused the explosion-like sound reported by neighbors or whether the fire started inside or outside the home. Investigators are examining the scene for potential ignition sources and any other factors that may have contributed to the fire.
