BRONX, N.Y. — A quiet Sunday evening turned deadly when 25-year-old Chanler Reams was shot and killed inside a Bronx apartment building on Southern Boulevard, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The tragic incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on November 9, 2025, leaving family members and neighbors in disbelief as detectives launched a full investigation into the fatal shooting.
Authorities said officers from the 48th Precinct responded to reports of gunfire at 2111 Southern Boulevard, where they discovered Reams unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the swift response by first responders and emergency personnel, Reams was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services. His death marks yet another act of senseless violence in a community already struggling with rising gun incidents.
Witnesses reported hearing a single loud gunshot before chaos broke out in the building. “Everyone started running; we didn’t know what was happening,” one neighbor said. “It’s just heartbreaking — he was so young.” Police quickly secured the area, blocking off the building entrance and nearby sidewalks as officers gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses in hopes of piecing together what led to the shooting.
Investigators from the NYPD Crime Scene Unit spent hours examining the scene, collecting shell casings, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later arrived to take custody of Reams’ body for autopsy and further examination. Authorities have not disclosed whether a weapon was recovered, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this time.
As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and detectives continue to pursue all available leads. The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the suspect or circumstances surrounding the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers website or by texting “TIP577” to CRIMES (274637).
The tragic death of Chanler Reams has left family members, friends, and community residents in mourning. Loved ones describe him as a friendly, outgoing young man whose life was full of promise.
