A tragic early-morning crash in Freeport has claimed the life of a 20-year-old Bay City man. Authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist, Carson Dilleree, died following a collision with a gray 2018 Hyundai Sonata in front of Port Freeport on Friday, Feb. 13. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and the Bay City community in mourning.
According to Lt. Craig Graham, the crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of FM 1495. Investigators reported that the Hyundai, driven by a 19-year-old Freeport man, pulled into the path of Dilleree’s 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle while attempting to make a left turn. The collision proved fatal for the young motorcyclist.
Both Dilleree and the Hyundai driver were transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Health–Brazosport Hospital. Tragically, Dilleree succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities said the Hyundai driver survived and was cited for failure to yield the right of way while turning left, a charge related to the circumstances of the collision.
Police believe that both inattention and weather conditions contributed to the crash. Heavy fog covered the coastal area that morning, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions. Officials continue to examine the scene and gather evidence to determine the full sequence of events.
The Freeport Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing. Officers are reviewing witness statements, traffic patterns, and environmental factors to ensure a complete understanding of the crash. No additional arrests or charges have been announced at this time.
Carson Dilleree’s death marks a heartbreaking loss for his loved ones and the Bay City community. Friends, family, and neighbors are mourning the sudden passing of a young life cut far too short, reflecting on the impact he had on those around him and the tragedy of an accident that occurred in just a moment on the road.
